Summer Preschool Crafts

Use these summer preschool crafts as part of a summer preschool theme.

1.Fan

Your preschooler can cool herself (or you) down with this fun and easy craft. It really works!

Supplies Needed:
Paper plate
Large craft stick or popsicle stick
Duct tape
Scissors
Stickers
Markers, crayons
1.Cut the center out of one paper plate (use the left over center from the visor above!)
2.Use duct tape to attach craft stick to circle
3.Have preschoolers and toddlers decorate their fan with stickers, markers, crayons, and stamps.

2.Sunflower

Supplies Needed:
Paper towel tube
green and yellow construction paper
small paper plate
pencil
glue or tape
stapler(adult to use)
sunflower seeds

For the Stem of the Sunflower: Use glue or tape to wrap a piece of green construction paper around a paper towel tube.
For The Petals of the Sunflower: Trace a child's handprints on yellow construction paper. Cut them out. You'll need about 6 handprints.
The Sunflower: Glue or staple the handprints around the small paper plate.
Put a small layer of glue in the center of the flower. Sprinkle sunflower seeds in the glue
Staple the stem to the flower (you'll have to flatten the top of the paper towel tube in order to staple it). You now have a huge sunflower!

3.Sunflower Handprints

Use your children's hands to make a summery sunflower picture.
Paint your child's hand yellow and place it on the paper. Continue to make handprints until you have made a complete circle. Then let the child use her thumb to make brown seeds in the center. Use green paint to make a stem and some grass.

4.Spiral Snake

This snake is made from a single piece of colored construction paper (or white paper that you decorate).
Supplies needed:
A piece of green (or other colored) construction paper
Crayons or markers
Scissors
Tape
String
Googly eyes and glue (optional)
On a piece of construction paper, draw a spiral. The center of the spiral will be the head, so draw an oval-shaped area in the center of the spiral.
Cut along the spiral lines you drew. Draw a face on your snake (optional: glue on googly eyes). Decorate the body of your snake to look like patterned snake skin.
To display your snake, tape a length of string to the snake's head. You can hang the snake from the ceiling or from a curtain rod.

5.Waxed Paper Stained Glass Butterfly

Supplies needed:
Waxed paper
Crayon shaving (crayons shaved with a scissors or a knife - by an adult)
Scissors
An iron(adult to use)
Holepunch
few inches of string
Fold a piece of waxed paper in two.
Draw half a butterfly with the body at the fold. Flip the paper over and draw the other half of the butterfly (using the original as your template).
Open the waxed paper and put it on a flat surface. Cover the waxed paper with another piece of waxed paper. Have an adult iron the two layers of waxed paper together on low heat (protect your iron by putting a paper towel on top of the waxed paper while ironing).
Cut out the butterfly. Punch a hole near the top. Put a string in the hole for hanging it. This butterfly looks beautiful hanging in a window.

1.Egg cup Ladybug

1.Separate one cup from an egg carton.
2.Using markers or tempera paint, children can paint the egg carton cup red. Then, using black paint, color in the head, and make spots on the body.
Using the point of a scissors, an adult should make 6 small holes (3 on each side) at the base of the cup (these will be for the legs). Make 2 small holes (for antennae) where the top of the head will be.
3.Insert a black pipe cleaner into each a side hole and out the other side for the legs. Use half a pipe cleaner for the antennae.
4.Glue on googly eyes or paint on white eyes.

2.Summer Collage

Collect different magazines with pictures related to summer. Have the children cut out pictures of what they like about summer. Have them glue their pictures to a bright piece and then tell you what their favorite things about summer are. Write what they say under the collage.

3.Sun Catchers

Cut the inside out of a paper plate for each child. Place clear contact paper with the covering removed over the hole. Have each child stick pieces of bright tissue paper all over his contact paper. When the child is done place another piece of contact paper over the tissue paper. Hang the suncatchers from your ceiling or windows.

4. Lid Sun catchers

Punch a hole at the top of different sized clear lids. Allow the children to spread glue over the lid and then cover it with bright tissue paper for a stunning sun catcher. Or mix corn syrup and a lot of food coloring, paint the lids with this mixture and let dry for a rainbow sun catcher. With both of these suncatchers thread a ribbon through the hole and hang in front of your window.

5.Squiggle Designs

Give each child a piece of wax paper. Have them make squiggles and different designs with the glue. Then sprinkle the glue with colors sand. After the glue has dried (overnight) peel the design off of the waxed paper. Hang the creations around the room.
