Back to School Activities

Here you'll find wonderful back to school activities for young children, both homeschooled and public schooled.

Fall apples often signal the start of the school year. Your preschooler will love being read to, seeing things, making things, creating things and playing outdoors. We did the following activities and my children loved it!

Read the book Applesauce Season by Eden Ross Lipson.
At the end of the book, there's a really good and easy applesauce recipe that your kids will love helping you make and eat! What I loved about the recipe was that the apples didn't need to be peeled or cored. We used a food mill which made it so easy and the kids loved turning the crank on the food mill!

Fall Colors

Also, end of summer with fall approaching brings on lots of color with leaves soon starting to change into brilliant yellows, oranges and reds. Here is a craft from my sister site( to help celebrate the change of season that uses your children's handprints and fingerprints.

Arm and Hand Tree

Supplies Needed:

1 piece of brown construction paper
blue or white paper
Nontoxic craft paint in yellow, red and orange colors(red and yellow mixed together will make orange)

Trace around your child's hand and arm up to their elbow on brown construction paper. Cut out. The hand will be the tree branches, and the arm will be the tree trunk. Have your child dip a finger into the paint colors and make fingerprint leaves on and around the tree branches.

September 26th is celebrated as Johnny Appleseed Day in honor of the father of some of the first apple orchards in the United States. While this little known holiday is often passed by with little fanfare, it offers great learning opportunities for preschool and elementary age students. If you want to teach your child about things associated with apples, try some of the crafts. Top of Back to School Activities
